Keynote speakers for 6th Virtual SEND Conference

What’s covered in our keynote sessions?

Making sense of the SEND Review and the SEND Code of Practice

The SEND Review was launched in September2019. Its aim was to review the SEND reforms introduced in 2014. This review was delayed by the global pandemic and is now expected in the autumn term 2021. Lorraine outlines the content of the review and the implications for schools, young people and their families.

Lorraine Petersen OBE

Education Consultant and former CEO of nasen, with 25 years of experience as a Teacher and Headteacher. Lorraine now runs her own independent consultancy.

The SEND Review:
building capacity

Building capacity within the SEND system relies on the support and development provided. Ensuring those involved have the knowledge, skills and resources to support children with SEND is a key aspect of the SEND Review. Jane discusses what we need to do to ensure schools can better meet the needs of pupils with SEND.

Jane Friswell

SEND Consultant, Parent Advocate and former SEN Headteacher. Jane has significant leadership experience in LA SEN Support advisory roles and as CEO of nasen.

Distributed leadership for SEND: seeking a strategic approach

Leadership and management can be highly effective when distributed across different levels in a school. But what does a distributed approach to the leadership of SEND across a school look like? Kate explains and outlines how it can enable improved access, participation and achievement for children with SEND across all aspects of school life.

Kate Browning

School Improvement for SEND Specialist Consultant. Kate has over 20 years of experience as a teacher, SENCO and Local Authority School Improvement Officer for SEN

What did previous attendees say?

I would strongly recommend this resource to anyone working in SEN. The value for money is amazing. So good being able to revisit sessions afterwards – makes it an excellent ongoing resource for us.

Julian Lewis, Assistant Headteacher / Ysgol Pen Coch School

The information presented was really useful and the staff and I can implement a lot of key ideas quickly and easily. Sharing the videos across the school has also saved me a lot of CPD preparation. Thank you.

Jo Vizor, Head of Learning Support / The Elms School

Excellent content delivered in a very convenient way and at a very reasonable price. More information than I could handle in one dose – but thankfully I will be able to re-visit in my own time.

Janet Bristow, SENCO / Perrymount Primary School
